Me and my gal pals at Club Scrap have decided once again to share the love of this incredible company and their AMAZING papers and kits. The theme for this blog hop is to use our die cutting tool of choice along with Club Scrap papers.

Anyone who’s ever been to my blog before knows I have mad love for my Silhouette SD. I honestly don’t know how I got through life without it. Ok, that may be stretching it a bit, but it is a huge part of almost every card, layout or art piece I do. So, it should be no surprise that I have cut all of my butterflies (including the LARGE one) on it. I also have mad love for Jennifer McGuire and my butterfly wall hanging pays homage to her heart wall hanging that she did for CHA earlier in the year. If I have the nerve, I may take mine with me to show her in person when I take a class from her next weekend (SO excited!). My last mad love is for the color of PURPLE. It exists everywhere in my life.

Grungy Monday 4 - Thunder Island

For this week, Linda is having us follow Tim’s technique which involves inking or stamping on a texture fade/embossing folder before inserting your paper as demonstrated here. When I read the challenge, I immediately thought of doing a sunrise or sunset using his rays folder. Simultaneously, I’ve been itching to try a Michelle Zindorf inspired background and voila…the two came together perfectly in this piece. Coincidentally, Simon Says stamp & Show was running a similar challenge to use a Tim Technique.

As I have explained, I initially planned to theme all of my GM submissions around songs. I naively thought that I would come up with the song I wanted to use and then make my piece for it. That has rarely been the case. As I worked on my background and then found the Ralph Burch Mermaid art, I found myself humming (& yes, sometimes singing) the 1978 one hit wonder Thunder Island by Jay Ferguson. I’m very pleased with the way it all came together and may be my favorite one so far. Thanks for looking.

Grungy Monday 3 - True Colors

This week, Linda at Studio L3 is having us get our color wash on!! I only own 1 flavor in this yummy lineup (for now?) and it's the sailboat blue. Don't know what to do with these? Have no fear, T!m shows you a few clever ideas here. I'm also submitting this for the Color Throwdown #137 challenge to use teal, summer sun and celery.

I'm making all my submissions 8x8 size so that I can put all of them in an album easily. I've used a variety of mediums on my mini canvases; color wash (teal/sailboat blue), glimmer mist (pearl), claudine hellmuth paint (purple palette) and metal craft paint (celery/bright green). I've sewn them onto a piece of yellow from Club Scrap's Science kit and then mounted that onto the purple from the same kit. The stamps are all from the Raku kit.

Continuing with the song/music theme, I've used True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. I've also chose to feature my wonderful Sister; my best friend in the world! Her birthday is Tuesday and I wanted to celebrate that! Love you so very much sissy.

A Brand New Challenge

Linda has conceived a new challenge over at Studio L3. We've finished all of the Compendium of Curiosities and have moved on to any and all of T!m's techniques. For the inaugural week, she has chose this lovely creation from 2008 to inspire us:

Along with this challenge, my sister Jennifer and I have decided to challenge ourselves by theming our submissions using Songs as inspiration. She is choosing to limit her choices to the solo and collective works of the Beatles. I'll be placing no such limits on myself, but I will be trying to use songs that mean something to me (altho i may have a random odd choice here and there :) )

My song choice this week is Elusive Butterfly by Bob Lind. It's been done by Dolly Parton & Cher, and I'm sure a number of other artists as well. I was fortunate to be raised with a great appreciation of all kinds of music. My mom and dad always seemed to have music playing and they had varied tastes, so I am thankful that I do as well. This is one i remember quite well, but i won't be surprised if you don't!

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 27

I spent a few hours yesterday making scrapbook page layouts using a technique called ALSB™ from Club Scrap. I will normally do an entire kit this way and store them in albums waiting for the perfect photos. I find this method much, much easier than starting with a handful of photos and working the other way. It seemed backward to me when I was first introduced, but now I know it's the best thing that's ever happened to my scrappin' life! This layout (and the ones I will post below) are from the May 2010 Blossom Kit (not much of it left to purchase!) which is one of my personal favorites as it uses the most yummy shade of my beloved purple. Ironically, the butterfly (which was cut on my silhouette) was used as a mask on an earlier challenge.

I've incorporated Linda's CCC #27 challenge into this particular layout by misting over a club scrap mask from the Arts N Crafts kit using Glimmer Mists and a homemade distress mist. Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 25 AND.... T!m's 12 Tags of Christmas - Day 9

The 25th challenge on Studio L3 is one called scribble stain distress. I'm was not at all familiar with this, so I had to carefully read page 34 of T!m's book. I have chosen to combine this 25th challenge, with T!m's 12 tags of Christmas Day 9 (yes, I'm still working on that project, lol)

There are so many things going on here, but i'll try to capture as many details as possible:

Technique done on a full 8.5x11 sheet of Club Scrap paper from the Bugs collection (just a nice off white color). Then I ironed it and I ran it through my printer to put the words and music to John Lennon's Imagine on it. I cut the pieces to fit my photo block and then I started blinging things up a bit. Added rhinestones to a peace sign stamp from a Recollections stamp set called Feelin' Groovy. I cut the peace dove and the treble clef on my silhouette and then inked them with Dusty Concord distress ink and sprayed with pearl glimmer mist. The Rosette is made with an amazing Club Scrap paper from the Time & Space kit and edged with gold glitter. I typed up a lyric of the song and printed it on a bracket I cut with the Silhouette. Also, there are dots of bisque liquid pearls along the bottom of each side.

T!m's 12 Tags of Christmas - Day 8

Here is my Day 8 creation (for lack of a better term)...it's certainly not a tag!

This is a lovely votive lantern thingamajig. The base of this is started life as a zen garden from Dollar Tree...to which i added 3 battery powered votive candles from dollar tree. the lantern shade is made from the most beautiful sheet of pearly white paper from the newest Club Scrap collection called Vogue which has been stamped with Brilliance Starlite Silver and Club Scrap's own white pigment ink pad in swirls (unknown) and sparkles (Club scrap).

The row of houses and sleigh & reindeer were cut with my Silhouette out of an old piece of Club Scrap paper from the Bugs collection and inked with Pine Needles & Barn Door. The reindeer are stamped with the poem "twas the night before Christmas". The Sky's The Limit! is a stencil from the Club Scrap kit called wings. The houses are topped with White Opal perfect pearl and sprinkled with ultra fine glitter and also sprayed with English Ivy glimmer mist.

The clock/moon is exactly that. Both images were downloaded from the internet and overlaid in photoshop. I printed the combined image onto transparency and adhered to another piece of the pearly paper which was inked with Mustard Seed DI.

I think it took me longer to type this description than it did to do the actual piece. Onto day 9!

T!m's 12 Tags of Christmas - Day 7

I did another door hanger. I've said it before, but I have a tough time doing art, just for the sake of art, so I always feel like it has to have a function. Also, I've slowed waaaaaay down on my production due to getting ready for a final exam and prepping a final paper/presentation.

This shape is slightly different from the last and I've used paper from Club Scrap's Arts 'N Crafts collection for the base. For the JOYFUL letters, i've used a combination of thickers and grunge board letters which I inked with DI's and stamped with the Dreamy Collage wood mount stamp from Club Scrap's Expressions kit.

I made my own sticky back canvas...works like a charm. I just used some inexpensive duck/canvas (you can also just buy a drop cloth from the hardware store) cut it into manageable lengths and run it thru the xyron.Additionally, I don't have the color wash, but I just mixed some of my distress ink re-inkers into my mini mister with water and it sprayed beautifully on the homemade sticky back canvas....probably could add a little perfect pearl and you'd have it all in one mister, but I opted to then spray with a glimmer mist. I then hand cut my poinsettia petals and leaves. I've used the rays embossing folder and covered that area with Rock Candy Stickles which caused some of the red to bleed off onto the paper, but oh well, there are no mistakes in art, right?

T!m's 12 Tags of Christmas - Day 6

In case you can't tell, i'm using up any white Club Scrap paper that I have. For this I've used the back of Key to My heart ( i hate doing that, but a girl must do, what a girl must do). Inked it up with dusty concord, chipped sapphire & vintage photo distress inks. Not sure where the purple satin ribbon came from...could be Club Scrap as well, but I know the gemstone brads are from the Solstice collection. I colored one of the clear gems purple with my bic marker. All elements cut on my Silhouette from designs made within the software. Stamp is Inkadinkadoo (Artistic Holiday)

T!m's 12 Tags of Christmas - Day 3

Ok...mine doesn't look much like T!m's, but it's deliberate! I tried to focus on the technique and i took that as the tissue tape. I don't have tissue tape, but i stamped and inked tissue, cut it into strips and applied atg tape to the back of it and made my own. The button center is from a CM kit. The paper (except the dove) is Club Scrap from a kit that I think is called Nature's Retreat. Ornament, bird & olive branch & text all cut on Silhouette. In addition to distress inks, I used Club Scrap's white pigment ink for the swirls on the dove. Oh, and i used my Position-it (bought thru Club scrap) to line up the background text stamp (works like a dream!)

Updating to also mention the red lace around the outside. I bet that has been in my craft stash for 20 years. So glad to be using up some of these things finally!

T!m's 12 Tags of Christmas - Day 1

December 1st finally arrived. I was so excited to see T!m's tag that i woke up in the middle of the night just to check it out and then had a hard time going back to sleep with visions of fences & houses dancing in my head!

For however many i'm able to follow along with, this year, I'm really going to try to force myself to think more artistically, and less literal (which is something i really struggle with), and avoid the temptation to copy exactly (although some i'm sure i will, lol). I sometimes lean more toward skittles than grunge (an ongoing battle between Jennifer McGuire & T!m), but I love the grunge look too, so I’m really not sure what my style is (still finding it I guess)

This one is created on a wood oval i found at Dollar Tree...the inking technique T!m outlines here worked perfectly on this surface after a base coat of paint. The rest of the elements (house, bird, fence, tree) are all cut on my Silhouette and in most cases were drawn right in the Silhouette software (the tree is the exception...it was a purchased shape). The limitation of the Silhouette is that I can’t cut grunge paper, so I turned to the next sturdiest paper I know….CLUB SCRAP! I’ve used the white paper from a very old kit called Key to my Heart and colored it with distress inks. For the house, I used a Fiskars texture plate (basketweave) to add embossing to my house. I cut that into strips and used dimensional foam pieces to create depth on my “siding”. I then sanded to reveal some of the white again. The bird is more white inked with barn door distress ink and accented with black enamel accents. The tree is inked with Walnut stain and accented with ultra fine glitter (for snow). Ultra fine glitter is also used on the fascia board pieces on the house. Tim’s crackle paint is applied to the Club Scrap paper fence, but I didn’t get much crackling. The 25 comes from T!m’s Seasonal Salvage stickers.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 19

Taking it to the EXTREME with masking this week over at Studio L3's Compendium of Curiosities Challenge. Check out T!m's blog for information about getting your very own copy of this inspirational manual. This technique appears on page 61.

Give me a C!! So, here's what I've decided to do for the remainder of my submissions. I'm creating a pennant banner for my room that says CREATE (and whatever else I can come up with)...so here's the C. Back to using the reds, yellows and oranges with this one. Guess I'll have to face the fact that i'm drawn to these colors although I never wear them.

I've used a number of reds, oranges & yellow Distress Inks for this on paper from Club Scrap (Gimme a Ring & Scholarship kits); a cutting file courtesy of Laina Lamb and stamps from a variety of sources (too many probably, lol).

The mojo is slowly making it's way back to me, but finding the time to do anything about it is getting increasingly hard.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 18

Another week, another Compendium of Curiosities Challenge at the Studio L3 blog....this week it's Dabber Resist. My papers (as almost always) are from Club Scrap....these are from the Textiles & Notions and Simply Beautiful kits (oldies but goodies). I think this corner stamp is from Kelly Panacci, but don't quote me on that! I've added some dollar tree jewels and some lavender stickles for a little sparkle. Oh, and I used dusty concord & Rusty Hinge distress inks as well as my favorite pearl glimmer mist.

I'm still feeling like someone has stolen my creative mojo, but I managed to eek this out just under the wire. I wish you all a productive and creative week ahead! I'm super excited because I'm starting an accelerated college course tomorrow night (yes, at 43 years old I'm going back to school!) I guess you're never too old to learn, right?

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 14

Mask Basics - Oh how I love a good mask! For my card I used T!m's mini mask called Florets and a mask i made from my butterfly cut on my QK Silhouette. I cut the butterfly and the square in the lower right from T!m's Lost & Found paper pack. Initially I used the mask on that square, but i didn't feel like that was quite enough, so then I decided to ink the entire front of the card. Once again, I'm using the wonderful papers of Club Scrap. This time from the Castaway collection. I sprayed the whole works with pearl glimmer mist. Oh, and I followed sketch # 71 on Priscilla Styles Midnight Madness Sketch challenge blog.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 12

Hard to believe, but this challenge puts all of us playing along at Linda's Studio L3 site a mere 1/3rd of the way thru all the fab techniques T!m shares in his Compendium of Curiosities book...this one is on page 44 and it's called Chipped Enamel.

I took my inspiration not only from T!m, but also from another creative hero of mine; Jennifer McGuire. As you can see from her post here, my card is a shameless re-creation of her work (with substitutions).

I followed some/most of her instructions, except that i used sepia accents (instead of glossy accents) on my leaf and I didn't use mine as a mask, just made it a separate element altogether. I really couldn't tell you where i found that acorn charm, but I've had it for a very very very long time. It began life as a bright & shiny brass with a hole in the top (presumably to hang it from something), so I gave it the chipped enamel treatment to grunge it up a bit. My 2 bracket shapes were cut with my QK Silhouette and my card base and panel are both from Club Scrap (Matrix & Ornamental kits respectively).

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 11

The challenge continues...we are on week 11 and the ever lovely Linda at Studio L3 has chosen a most wonderful technique called Blended Batik which is featured on page 36 of T!m's A Compendium of Curiosities book.

I chose to do my card in silvery blues & greys because looking back, so many of my submissions were red and yellow and orange (which is really not me at all). So, hold on while i bore you with all the details (that i can share). The flower shapes are from Outlines Rubber Stamps which I cut on my QK Silhouette (my most favorite toy...i mean tool, ever!) as is the leafy vine image. The flowers were inked with Broken China & Pumice Stone distress inks. The buttons and the butterfly bookmark are from my stash. Most of the papers are from Club Scrap's Destinations kit (with the silver from the Culinary kit). 2 of the stamps used on the flowers are also Club Scrap (Henna & Michael Strong Paisley kit), the other flower uses the friend definition stamp from Hero Arts...they are sprayed with Pearl Glimmer Mist (which is an absolute must to own..i use it VERY frequently). The ticket is made with Autumn Leaves ticketed stamp set. Oh...and last but certainly not least, there's a hint of faded jeans distress stickles near the bottom.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 10

Hello all...I hope you are having a good week! I was finally inspired for Linda's Compendium of Curiosities Challenge tonight looking at my photos from Stampaway 2010. One of the booths had some Wizard of Oz themed cards and I instantly thought, what needs stickles more than a pair of ruby red slippers??? So, here's the card I made. The paper is all from Club Scrap (Black is from Cruisin Kit, Red is from Ornamental Kit, Yellow is from Common Threads Kit and the tiny Silver is from Culinary). I ran the yellow thru Tim's brick embossing folder and sprayed with Pearl Glimmer Mist. The ruby red slippers were manipulated a bit in PSE and then printed out and then covered with rock candy distress stickles. The wand is made from a narrow strip of grungeboard that's been inked with Black soot. The phrase is from a stamp set called "You Go Girl" made by The Paper Company Studio and was snagged recently on a visit to Big Lots. Thanks for looking.....Thank goodness tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!!

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 8

Inked Grunge - I'll have to admit that I've owned grunge paper for several months and never used it...shame on me! So, imagine my delight when I saw what the wonderfully talented Linda over at StudioL3 was issuing us CofC Challenge fans to do.

These are 2 pinwheels (not working pinwheels mind you) that I'll probably use as plant picks/decorations at my most favorite time of the year.....Halloween. I had fun with this one! Hope you did too.
